EuroLeague agrees Clancy International deal to launch interactive video NFTs - SportsPro - SportsPro Media
The EuroLeague elite basketball competition has announced a new, multi-year partnership with Clancy International to launch interactive video non-fungible token (NFT) collections.
The development of the rights holder’s Web 3.0 strategy will see the creation of the ‘EuroLeague EuroReels’ digital collectibles range, with content sourced from the league, clubs and players.
Made available in various rarities, the EuroReels will represent key moments of the 2021/22 EuroLeague season and be bundled with a data set, as well as a customised case.
The launch of the interactive NFTs will be a phased rollout, with interested fans able to register for the EuroReels beta list and get notified as to when the early-stage platform will go live. Users will be asked to create an account ahead of the Beta private collection launch release and the general public drop in June.
“We are very happy to be working with such a progressive and globally renowned sports league,” said Rem Langan, chief executive of Clancy.
“EuroLeague has passionate fans and we are excited to bring them a high-quality digital experience. It is an honour to work alongside a sports and entertainment organisation driven by such creativity, innovation and fan-excellence. Clancy is excited to welcome EuroLeague Basketball to its growing portfolio of global sport brands like Benfica.”
The EuroLeague partnership department has been working in the last 12 months to define an appropriate Web 3.0 strategy, maximising engagement opportunities for fans and consumers. The partnership with Clancy aims to not only create new virtual products but to keep the functionality of the products attuned to the engagement expectations of fans.
Roser Queralto, chief business officer at EuroLeague, added: “Our fans deserve our best efforts to go all-out and create engagement spaces in which they feel comfortable and entertained, and we are very satisfied to have accomplished that with Clancy.
“The Web 3.0 space is still in its infancy but partnering with robust companies ensures not only a greater business opportunity, but also a faster learning curve.”
