Finch has averaged 26.4 runs in 2022 at an average strike rate of 112.
The 35-year struggled in Australia’s 7-wicket win against Sri Lanka as he limped to an unbeaten 31 off 42 balls and never looked comfortable at the crease. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-mrec'); }); Bailey said that the only way Finch were to be dropped from the side is he were to do it on his own accord which would be unlikely. “In the unlikely scenario where Aaron Finch is left out, dropped or moved down the order, it would have to be a call from Aaron himself,” Bailey said on SEN 1170 Mornings. “I don’t imagine (the Australian set up) making that call in the middle of the world cup to drop a captain and someone who has been in that team for such a long time. “Aaron retired from the one-day game when he realised, he didn’t have another year in him. “When he made that call about the one-day game, he said he was still in good form when it came to T20 cricket. “I don’t think he will let go of it at this point. “I don’t see any changes at the top of the order.” Despite Finch’s overall form slump, his record against England in T20 is fantastic as he has averaged 47 runs at a strike rate of over 160 and a high score of 156.
The whole Australian side including Finch will need to fire against an under-fire England who were upset by Ireland on Wednesday. “This is the biggest game of the world cup so far,” Bailey continued. “It’s definitely the biggest game of T20 cricket in Australia. “Australia on Tuesday night looked like a side that were very on edge. “There were a number of things you just don’t normally see.
They look frustrated. “With England, for all their dominance in white ball cricket over four or five years, they only have one major trophy to their name. “Will they be on edge just as Australia were? “If they lose tomorrow night, then there will be two T20 cups they haven’t got what they should’ve in the space of two years.” Australia will play England at the MCG on October 28.
A loss for either side will make it incredibly tough to qualify past the group stage and into the finals of the World Cup. source
