Nov 3, 2022 Top-seeded Westminster College and second-seeded Franciscan University will meet in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference women’s soccer championship tournament title match after scoring semifinal victories Wednesday.
Westminster (13-3-2) posted a 1-1 draw against No. 4 Chatham University (11-3-4) at the UPMC Sports Complex in New Wilmington, winning in a shootout 4-2.
Franciscan (12-4-2) cruised to a 4-1 win over No. 3 Grove City College (11-7-1) at Trinity Health System Field in Steubenville.
Westminster will host Saturday’s title match at the UPMC Sports Complex at 6 p.m.
Selections for the 64-team Division III Championship will be announced Monday, at 2 p.m.
First and second round matchups are scheduled for Nov. 11-13.
Franciscan earned a spot in the championship tournament’s title match for the first time in program history with Wednesday’s win.
Grove City jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute when senior forward Hailey Weinert scored an unassisted goal.
Franciscan evened the match at 1-1 in the 42nd minute when sophomore Tania Davidson scored off of an assist from junior Juliana Rubino.
Tied 1-1 at the half, Davidson struck for her second goal of the match in the 48th minute, scoring off an assist from senior Claire Salyer.
Rubino extended Franciscan’s lead to 3-1 in the 52nd minute, scoring off of assists from Salyer and junior Angela Postage.
Sophomore Annie Winogradoff closed out the scoring with a goal in the 82nd minute, scoring off an assist from senior Bella Rubino.
Franciscan finished with a 21-12 advantage in shots, including a 14-5 edge in shots on goal.
Franciscan registered nine corner kicks while Grove City totaled seven.
Davidson owns the league lead with 20 goals scored this season.
Sophomore Rebekka Dill made four saves for Franciscan.
Grove City sophomore Courtney Lisman stopped 10 shots.
