By Dan Coombs Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has paid tribute to former Real Madrid teammate Marcelo.
Marcelo’s career at Real Madrid has come to an end after the club announced his departure.
The Brazilian won five Champions League trophies at Real Madrid, four alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
The pair are close friends off the pitch, with Marcelo congratulating Ronaldo on his goalscoring exploits for United earlier this season on social media.
Ronaldo’s message translates: “More than a teammate, a brother that football gave me.
On and off the fields, one of the biggest stars with whom I had the pleasure of sharing a locker room.
Go with everything on this new adventure, Marcelo!” Marcelo won a staggering 25 trophies for Real Madrid during his time at the club.
The 34-year-old is not planning to retire, and is going to spend some time looking at where he plans to sign next.
Manchester United are not understood to have plans to bring him on board to strengthen the left-back position, although the club could certainly do worse… Quoted by BBC Sport, the Brazilian left-back said: “I did not want to stay for another year or two out of pity. “I’m always going to support Real Madrid and together we’ve decided to leave it well, and through the front door. “I don’t feel like a legend.
Life doesn’t end here.
I’m going to continue playing.
I believe I can continue but I’m not thinking much about the future.” Real Madrid signed Marcelo from Fluminense in 2007 and he has gone onto become one of the club’s most successful ever footballers.
He was an unused substitute in the recent Champions League final, with Ferland Mendy starting at left-back. source
