Reports earlier today emerged claiming that Barcelona were poised to make a surprise signing before the transfer window slammed shut.

Club president Joan Laporta also hinted at the same in an interview.

And even though it was dismissed that the player was unlikely to be Fekir, as things turn out, it is the French international who is now believed to be headed to Camp Nou.

The update from Manu Sainz claims that the 29-year-old is at the offices of Real Betis to secure his exit and make the jump to Barcelona before the transfer window deadline passes.

A top-quality attacking midfielder, Fekir has been with Real Betis since 2019, when he joined from Olympique Lyon and has grown into a vital player for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Fekir has contributed 22 goals and 25 assists from 122 appearances for Los Verdiblancos so far, with two assists in three La Liga games this season.

An attacking midfielder by trade, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner is capable of playing in a multitude of positions in the final third of the pitch and can add another creative element to Barcelona’s gameplay, should he complete the move.

Fekir had signed a new contract with Betis until 2026 earlier this year.

So, it remains to be seen how much the Catalans will be shelling out to sign him.
