South Range dominates Garfield en route to win…

BEAVER TOWNSHIP , South Range’s seniors wanted to go out with a bang.

Win or lose Friday night, the Raiders’ Division V, Region 17 playoff showdown against Garfield was going to be the last time their senior class would play on their home field.

They wanted to make it a memorable one.

After the G-Men kicked a field goal to cap off an 8-minute drive, South Range responded in less than a minute.

A two-play, 80-yard drive kickstarted the Raiders in a 49-10 victory. “I don’t think it’s sunk in yet.

I don’t think it will for a while,” South Range senior Shane Lindstrom said. “No better way to go out like this.

All our seniors, this just means so much.

I mean, we’ve been talking about it all day, about this being our absolute last game here.

We said that we’re going to take in the moment, enjoy it and make the most of it.” And the seniors definitely made the most of it.

Senior Tyler Remish had the response touchdown, then added two more in the first four minutes of the second quarter.

He finished with 82 yards on 10 carries.

Senior Billy Skripac had another outstanding performance, going 13-of-16 for 274 yards in the air, two passing touchdowns, 64 yards on the ground and an additional score.

Lindstrom had 148 yards through the air, including a deep reception to set up the first score, and a 12-yard touchdown.

To Raiders coach Dan Yeagley, this group of seniors is a big reason South Range has had the success they’ve had over the last few years. “The 20 seniors are a special group, they really are,” Yeagley said. “One of the reasons for our success over the last few years is because of how they played and how they played together and how they lifted each other up week in and week out, year in and year out.

I’m very proud of those guys, very proud of them, and how they’ve led this team and we’re where we are because of them.” After that eight minute opening drive, the G-Men weren’t able to replicate that success in holding onto the ball.

The South Range defense was able to achieve what plenty of teams have tried and failed to do.

Stop Garfield. “Hats off to our our scout team, because they had to assimilate this offense, which is very hard,” Yeagley said. “Coach (Mike) Moser does a great job and what (our scout team) did preparing us for this week was unbelievable.

They got us ready and we played well.

A lot of is because our scout team offense and our scout team defense.

It’s special to have a good group of kids that are able to do that.” Going into the year, people outside the program had their doubts about the G-Men.

The talk only motivated Garfield as the G-Men finished with a 9-3 record and were a game away from another league title.

With the youth on the roster stepping up in big roles this year, Garfield coach Mike Moser plans on keeping the G-Men machine going into next year. “A lot of people didn’t think we’d make it this far,” Moser said. “We played a lot of young guys and started a lot of guys that hadn’t played and I think we got better all year long.

That’s all you can ask.

Is that the guys get better, the guys believe in what you’re doing and keep working hard.
