Oct 28, 2022 MAYVILLE , No. 2 Chautauqua Lake downed No. 10 Westfield 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 in a Section VI Class D quarterfinal on Thursday.

Leading the way for the Thunderbirds (15-0) were Brynn Engdahl with six kills, one ace and four digs; Ava Olson with six kills, two aces, 11 digs and 11 assists; Hannah Group with five kills; Jenna Harle with three aces and eight digs; Mallory Morrison with two kills, one ace, six digs and 11 assists; and Jenna Waters with 23 digs.

For the Wolverines, Sydney Hotchkiss collected eight digs; Tanleigh Bestine added seven assists and four blocks; Keara Kincaid had two aces, eight kills and nine digs; Haleigh Dellow chipped in 10 kills, four blocks and five digs; and Maddie Burgess had five digs.

The Thunderbirds will meet No. 6 Clymer/Sherman, which knocked off No. 3 Gowanda 3-2.

That semifinal is set for Tuesday.

GOLDEN FALCONS ROLL MIDDLEPORT , Hannah Melquist turned in a five all-around performance to lead No. 5 Falconer to a 25-17, 25-17, 25-14 Class C2 quarterfinal victory over No. 4 Roy-Hart.

Dani Krenzer chipped in eight kills, 16 digs and three aces; Augustine Kenzer had four kills, 13 digs and two blocks; Mylie Zaranek collected six kills and seven digs; Emily Zaranek adde four blocks, three kills and five digs; and Nylah Sharpe contributed 15 digs for the Golden Falcons (11-8).

Falconer will No. 1 Portville in the semifinals Tuesday.

CARDS IMPROVE TO 17-2 RANDOLPH , Top-seeded Randolph improved to 17-2 following a 25-20, 25-13, 23-25, 25-15 Class D quarterfinal victory over No. 9 Maple Grove.

Eve Adams led the way for the Cardinals with 27 kills, three aces and 14 digs; Allie Conley had eight kills and three digs; Amanda Adams collected three aces, 38 assists and seven digs; Avery Morrison contributed 18 digs and one assist; and Alanna Sluga added four aces, three kills, three assists and seven digs.

For Maple Grove (10-10), Rachel King had three aces and 15 kills; Aliza Dawes collected seven kills and seven digs; Erin Mansfield chipped in 23 assists and four digs; Megan Lockwood had two aces; Abby Harrell added three assists and one kill; and Hannah Benson had 13 digs.

TROJANS PREVAIL No. 3 Southwestern advanced to the Class C1 semifinals with a 25-6, 25-19, 25-16 Class C1 quarterfinal victory over No. 6 Olmsted.

Jaidyn Newhouse paced the Trojans (15-3) with 11 kills, five aces and two blocks; Lauren Cotter added 10 kills, nine aces and one block; and Arrington Restivo chipped in 24 assists, two kills and three aces.

Southwestern will meet either No. 2 Akron or No. 10 Fredonia in the semifinals on Tuesday.

WOLVES OUTLAST GOWANDA GOWANDA , Clymer/Sherman pulled off the upset of the night in Class D when it knocked off No. 3 Gowanda (11-4) in a five-set thriller 25-22, 13-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-9.

The Wolves (16-4) were led by Cora Goldberg with 11 kills, 12 digs and seven blocks; Hayden Fisher made 10 kills, 10 digs, three aces and two blocks; Natalie Johnson worked 15 digs, seven kills and a block; and Janelle Burchanowski added 35 assists, nine digs, four kills and three blocks.

Now the sixth-seeded Wolves will take on No. 2 Chautauqua Lake on Tuesday in the semifinals.

BLACK KNIGHTS MOVE ON BUFFALO , No. 7 Silver Creek pulled off the upset against the No. 2 seed in Class C2, sweeping MST Prep in the quarterfinals by scores of 25-14, 25-19, 25-15.

Ryleigh Lawton led the Black Knights (7-13) with seven aces and three kills; Payton Brennan had seven kills and three aces; Gianna Grabias made 22 assists and two blocks; Josie Daniels collected in six digs and Lucille Jimerson was credited with three blocks.

Silver Creek will now travel to No. 6 Allegany-Limestone for a semifinal matchup on Tuesday.
