Dual sport athlete Daniel Freitag is seeing his recruitment expand both in basketball and football.
The 6-foot-2, 175 point guard who attends Jefferson Senior High School in Minneapolis (Minn.) is undecided between which sport he will pursue and has taken visits for both sports. “The recruitment process has been great,”he said. “I know a lot of people ask if it’s overwhelming but I shut down the question every time.
I think it’s a great thing to be involved in and I’ve enjoyed everyday of it. “I have not decided if I’ll play football or basketball yet,” Freitag said. “I’m just looking for opportunity.
Whichever sport it is I’m looking for opportunity and where I feel most comfortable.
In terms of visits, Freitag looks to set up a visit with Virginia for basketball at some point and has a visit set to Kansas State for football the weekend after Thanksgiving. “For basketball, I hold offers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Virginia, Baylor, Iowa State, Iowa and Nebraska.
Out of those Virginia has probably contacted me the most out of everybody.
On the football side I have a lone offer in Minnesota and they’ve contacted me the most out of any program.” “I’ve taken a few visits for Minnesota football and I’m trying to take one for Virginia basketball, I just need to set up a date in the future.
We haven’t discussed exact dates but I know it’ll happen eventually.” Freitag broke down his relationship with Minnesota and Virginia with 247Sports.
Minnesota: “With them being the hometown, it’s something big.
I think every athlete in the world can agree with me with that.
I’ve enjoyed the recruiting process especially from the football end of it.
They make me feel good about my importance to the program.
On the basketball end I’ve been on quite a few visits and they seem to always let me come by so I appreciate that.” Virginia: “The Virginia relationship is great.
Before I was offered, one of their assistant coaches came in and watched me hoop a little bit and we talked before school.
I could tell we really clicked.
I also got on a zoom call with coach Bennett and we clicked a lot as well.
