Following a Fight of the Year candidate against Amanda Serrano in April, Katie Taylor is looking to end the year on a high note.
The undisputed lightweight champion defends her titles against Karen Carabajal on October 29.
The fight takes place in The SSE Arena in London.
It has been a great year for women’s boxing.
Taylor and Serrano blew the roof off of Madison Square Garden, while Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall did the same inside London’s O2 Arena.
Having been a lightweight champion since she won the WBA lightweight title in 2017, Taylor has defended lightweight gold 13 times.
Some consider Taylor the “G.W.O.A.T.” ( Greatest Woman of all Time ), while others would say Shields, a now-two-time undisputed middleweight champion, is.
Taylor isn’t interested in a competition and has instead praised all of women’s boxing.

Karen Carabajal “I wouldn’t say [the rankings] motivate me at all,” Taylor told the PA news agency, via Yahoo Sports . “I think we’re both just doing our thing, and I’m trying to be the best I can be, and she’s trying to be the best she can be, and we’re both having a huge influence on the boxing world, which is fantastic. “I think some of the greatest fights we’ve seen this year have been myself and [Amanda] Serrano, Claressa Shields, and Savannah Marshall a few weeks ago, which is absolutely incredible.
It’s been an amazing few months for women’s boxing, and I’m just delighted to be a part of that.” Taylor defends her titles against Carabajal, a former lightweight and featherweight title contender.
After failing to win the WBO lightweight title against Rose Volante in 2017, Carabajal has gone 5-1 in her last six fights.
Losing to Sarah Mahfoud in 2020 for the interim IBF featherweight title, she has since won two in a row.
Back in May, she beat Debora Anahi Dionicius for the interim WBO lightweight title.
