Fredonia football jumps in rankings | Content Marketing Institute

Oct 21, 2022 Fredonia made the biggest jump among local teams in the New York State Sportwriters Association football rankings this week.

The Hillbillies moved up four spots to No. 13 in Class C after beating Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton 35-8 last Friday in Mayville.

Fredonia will host nonleague rival Dunkirk at the Orange Bowl tonight at 7 p.m. while it awaits its Section VI Class C postseason seed.

Randolph finally moved up a spot in the Class D rankings to No. 4 after beating Cattaraugus-Little Valley 35-8 last week.

The Cardinals’ improvement in the rankings came in large part due to Moriah’s lost to Peru in Section VII action.

Moriah was No. 3 last week, but dropped to No. 8 after its loss.

Peru is No. 12 in Class B.

Randolph will visit Class D No. 9 Portville tonight with the league title on the line.

The Panthers moved up a spot from No. 10 after beating Gowanda/Pine Valley last week.

Jamestown remained No. 9 in Class A after its largest scoring output of the season last Friday at Niagara Wheatfield.

The Red Raiders, who won 57-26, will take on Clarence tonight at Strider Field with a chance to clinch their league title outright.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove remained an honorable-mention selection in Class B after beating Silver Creek/Forestville 42-7 last Friday at Bill Race Field.

The Golden Cougars will host crosstown rival Southwestern tonight in a nonleague matchup to end the regular season.

The Trojans are ranked No. 22 in Class C, up a spot from a week ago, after beating Allegany-Limestone 19-6 last Friday.

Salamanca moved back in to the Class C rankings at No. 25 after being an honorable-mention selection a week ago.

The Warriors topped Eden/North Collins 48-15 last Friday and will host Silver Creek/Forestville in their Class C South finale tonight.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama has returned to the Class D rankings at No. 12 after being an honorable-mention selection a week ago.

The Wolfpack beat Franklinville/Ellicottville 22-20 last Saturday, dropping the Titans from No. 9 to honorable-mention status.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama will host St.

Mary’s on Saturday while Franklinville/Ellicottville will visit Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

In Class AA, St.

Francis is No. 14, Lancaster is No. 15, Orchard Park is No. 20 and Canisius is No. 21 while St.

Joe’s is an honorable-mention selection.

Anthony’s of the Catholic High Schools Athletic Association is the top-ranked team in the state.

In Class A, McKinley is No. 21 while Amherst, Frontier, Kenmore West, South Park, Western New York Maritime, West Seneca West and Williamsville East are all honorable-mention choices.

Somers of Section I is the No. 1 team.

Iroquois is No. 2, Maryvale is No. 11, Albion is No. 17 and Pioneer is No. 19 while Bishop Timon, Cheektowaga and West Seneca East are honorable-mention selections in Class B.

Maine-Endwell of Section IV is the top-ranked team.

Medina is No. 4 and Lackawanna is No. 8 while Royalton-Hartland/Barker/Lyndonville and Depew are honorable-mention selections in Class C.

Chenango Forks of Section IV is No. 1.

Defending state champion Tioga of Section IV remains the top-ranked team in Class D.

BOYS SOCCER Maple Grove will open its postseason as the No. 9 team in Class D according to the NYSSWA rankings.

With only three teams in the Section VI Class D bracket, the Red Dragons will have to wait until Halloween night for their sectional final against the winner of Ellicottville and North Collins.

Ellicottville is No. 17 in Class D and will take on North Collins in a semifinal next Wednesday at West Seneca West High School.

In Class C, Portville is No. 8.

The Panthers edged Randolph 2-1 in a Section VI Class C quarterfinal Thursday and will take on No. 3 Wilson in the semifinals next Wednesday at West Seneca East High School.

In Class AA, Clarence is No. 7 and Lancaster is No. 19 while the top-ranked team is Scarsdale of Section I.

Williamsville South is No. 7 and Garden City of Section VIII is No. 1 in Class A.

In Class B, East Aurora is No. 4 and Lewiston-Porter is No. 14 while Briarcliff of Section I is No. 1.

Holland/Franklinville/West Valley is No. 14 and Avon of Section V is No. 1 in Class C.

Chazy of Section VII is the top-ranked team in Class D.

GIRLS SOCCER Frewsburg is up to No. 7 in the Class C rankings.

The Bears will host Randolph in a Section VI Class C quarterfinal this afternoon.

Ellicottville is No. 17 in the Class D rankings and will take on Franklinville in the Class D semifinals next Monday at Dunkirk’s Karl Hoeppner Field.

In the other semifinal that night, No. 20 North Collins will take on Maple Grove.

In Class AA, Clarence is No. 2 and Lancaster is No. 18 while Shaker of Section II is No. 1.

Williamsville East is No. 11 and Niagara Wheatfield is No. 13 while New Hartford of Section III is No. 1 in Class A.

Nichols is No. 3 and City Honors is No. 25 in Class B where the top-ranked team is Schalmont of Section II.

St.

Mary’s is No. 4 in Class C and Waterford-Halfmoon of Section II is No. 1.

Mount Academy of Section IX is No. 1 in Class D.
