Mumbai news highlights, 30 October 2022: A PhD student was arrested in Ahmednagar Saturday for allegedly posting defamatory remarks against Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, among others.
The accused was brought to Mumbai and a local court sent him in four-day police remand.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole said NCP chief Sharad Pawar has accepted the invitation to join Bharat Jodo Yatra in Maharashtra. “We have received his schedule as per which he will join the yatra in Nanded on November 8,” Patole said.
Patole said that the party has extended the invitation to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and they are yet to receive the confirmation about him joining the yatra.
Amid the row over the Tata-Airbus project that went to Gujarat instead of Maharashtra, Yuva Sena president and Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray said Saturday that had he been the deputy chief minister in place of Devendra Fadnavis, he would have withdrawn his support to the government.
Asking Fadnavis to resign and face elections, Aaditya said, “There are discussions about instability in the state and the government… No industrialist believes in this government; they do not know for how many days this government will run.
Had I been the deputy chief minister of this state, I would have withdrawn support to this government since his (Fadnavis’) name is also getting tarnished.
He should in fact resign and opt for fresh elections.” Devotees gathered at the beaches and artificial ponds in Mumbai on Chhath Puja, Sunday.
The Mumbai Police has issued a list of traffic restrictions in the city during the festival.
A woman running a animal shelter and care facility in Malad in Mumbai has been booked after some patrons complained that stray animals had died there, a police official said.
The complainants said she had charged money to take care of these stray animals, including cats and dogs, from as many as 50 people but many of the animals had died allegedly due to poor conditions, he said. ''As per one complainant, some 30 stray animals have died.
He has sought the intervention of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation so that the facility can be shut down.
Others have alleged the bodies of the animals had been disposed of,'' he said. The animal lovers and feeders of Mumbai held a protest at Shivaji Park ground on Sunday, following a recent order issued by the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court on the issue of feeding stray dogs.
The order had directed animal lovers to not feed stray dogs at any place, except animal activists' own homes, after formally adopting them.

In other news, the Maharashtra government has removed 'categorised' security cover of 25 leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress, an official said on Friday.
It means these leaders would not have permanent police security outside their houses or escort.
The decision was taken after a fresh assessment of their security perception, the official said.
Those who lost security cover includes several former cabinet ministers.
