SILVER CREEK , A short and sweet meeting of the Village Trustees featured positive news across the board from Mayor Jeff Hornburg.
First, Hornburg shared that the village is set to receive a 0 check from the Silver Creek-Irving Heritage Fund to help cover the expenses of Music in the Park next summer. “I’m delighted that they selected us again this year,” said Hornburg.
Next, Hornburg spoke to the 0,000 Community Development Block Grant through New York state recently awarded to the village to rehabilitate houses through Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation and Improvement Corp (CHRIC). “We’re excited about that,” said Hornburg, who noted he was told the funds could potentially impact 8-9 homes in the village, which is in line with what was initially reported by the OBSERVER.
Finally, to conclude the mayor’s report, Hornburg and the rest of the board in attendance all shared praise of the effort from the village’s Department of Public Works during the recent winter storm. “I really want to give a strong shout-out to our DPW for their efforts with snow removal,” said Hornburg. “I think that they did a fine job keeping the village open through what was a horrendous snowfall.” Trustee Sandra Lindstrom and Trustee Marv Cummings also echoed Hornburg’s praises. “Thank God for good equipment, good employees, and a good plan,” said Cummings. “I’m very grateful for the work that they did and I think we are very fortunate that we have them,” added Lindstrom.
Before Mayor Hornburg’s comments, the village approved the Kiwanis Club of Silver Creek to hold its annual Christmas in the Park celebration at the Silver Creek Village Square on Saturday, Dec. 3 from noon until 3 p.m.
The village also set official dates for its January meetings.
With each of the regularly scheduled dates set to fall on a holiday , New Year’s Day (observed) and Martin Luther King Jr.
Day , the village moved its meetings to the next day on the calendar, Tuesday, Jan. 3 and Tuesday, Jan. 17, each set for 7 p.m. as usual.
At the Jan. 3 meeting, the village anticipates bids for Phase 5 of the Inflow and Infiltrationproject to be opened, and the selected bid to be awarded at the Jan. 17 meeting.
The project is to keep ground water and storm water from mixing with sewage and exceeding the capacity of the water treatment plants.
The village also accepted the application to the Silver Creek Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary as approved by the fire wardens for the following: Judy Hilliker, Wendy Daniels, Natasha Souter, Tiffany Parker, Diane Bauer, Elizabeth Kowal, Jessica Nolan, Payton Wood, Tara Grzasko, Kari Brennan, and Tammie Bund.
