The team made the announcement Saturday afternoon via their official Twitter feed.

However, with a 32-40-10 record, the team missed the playoffs for the sixth successive season.
Blashill has been the head coach for all six of those seasons.
He took over as bench boss in 2015.
Blashill was 204-261-72 behind the Detroit bench.

Both would be good to take a risk on at this stage.
Can always go for the experienced playoff proven coach in 2-3 years.
If anybody was surprised about the head coaching change, they have not paid attention to the 30 games this season the team gave up 5 or more goals, including the 10 goal game vrs Toronto.
Change was way overdue.
Will next coach do better?
