News Director MEDFORD, Ore. -- A series of grass fires are done burning along Interstate 5 at 11:30am Sunday.
Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) Southwest District says the largest fire was stopped at approximately a quarter of an acre and firefighters are mopping up each incident.
ODF says, "We have launched aircraft to do recon further north and so far, haven’t found any new fires.
We’ll continue to monitor these areas throughout the day." ODF Southwest District was among responders to grass fires from mile markers 44-50 for northbound I-5, with fires reported near exit 45, mile 48 and mile 50.
ODF says six fires comprised the series of grass fires, with no formal evacuations engaged.
Initial reports from drivers about a fire near exit 45 started approximately 9:27am.
Other reports involved a crash at I-5's exit 45 and backed up traffic to exit 48 during the first hour of the morning fire.
