LAPLACE — Revelation Knowledge Outreach Center in LaPlace is transitioning to Christ Embassy International, a new ministry that will be formally introduced to the community with a school uniform drive for children in need.
Christ Embassy will host a family-friendly back to school event on July 30 encompassing a uniform giveaway, food and refreshments, a waterslide, a bounce house and other activities for children.
New or gently used school shirts, skirts, pants and socks are being accepted between Monday, June 27 and Monday, July 25.
Donations can be dropped off at Christ Embassy International, 125 Ash St. in LaPlace, or at the St. John the Baptist Parish Library Reserve branch located at 170 W. 10th St. in Reserve.
Apostle Ahkem Wilson said Christ Embassy International will continue the positive work Revelation Knowledge has put forth for the youth in the community. Wilson himself is a product of DeVare’s guidance.
Wilson became part of the Revelation Knowledge Ministry at 11 years old in 2008. DeVare was driving a school bus through LaPlace when Wilson came running to the bus and asked without hesitation if she could pick him up for Bible study. DeVare instantly recognized something special within the young man, something she knew she needed to hold onto.
Their story has come full circle almost 15 years later, as the Holy Spirit recently instructed DeVare and her husband to allow Wilson to take their beloved church to the next level.
“We are definitely enjoying the fruit of her labor with the young people. God has shown to be faithful to her because she has been faithful to Him,” Wilson said. “We want to let the community know Revelation Knowledge has come out of hiding, it has rebranded to a new name, and the ministry is still alive. We are adding vibrance and radiance to the church.”
Wilson believes Christ Embassy can become a positive force for the community, similar to New Wine Christian Fellowship. In addition to the back to school event, Wilson hopes to feed local children and cultivate a worship space that will bring a renewed energy to the youth.
Christ Embassy Administrator Ellaina Williams said the uniform drive serves as an introduction to the community.
“We are trying to give school supplies and uniforms to assist families in need for the upcoming school year and at the same time let the neighborhood know that we’re here. Our ministry is based on giving back, and God blesses us to take care of one another,” Williams said. “The youth will be a big priority for us. That’s where our focus is, especially with what’s going on right now. Not only do we need to reign them back in; we also need to put them in a place where we can pour into them not only spiritually, but give them that space to grow and learn.”
