A loaded 9 mm handgun was confiscated at Pittsburgh International Airport last week after a Westmoreland County man tried to bring the weapon in his carry-on bag.

The Ligonier man was arrested on a weapons charge.
TSA officials said the man did not have a valid permit to carry a firearm. “Part of being a responsible gun owner is knowing the importance of having a valid license to carry and knowing not to bring a firearm to a TSA security checkpoint,” said Karen Keys-Turner, TSA’s Federal Security Director for the airport.
This was the eighth instance of a gun being seized at the airport this year.
Thirty-two were found over the course of 2021.
Nationwide, TSA officers detected 5,972 firearms on passengers or their carry-on bags at checkpoints last year.
Of the guns caught by TSA in 2022, about 86% were loaded.
