Fire risk I read the article on mapping fire risk (Thursday, July 7).
The article did not list a website, but after some googling, I found it (not an easy link).
We live in the forest east of Medford and are rated extreme.
Every year we work on thinning and trimming trees, removing dead and dying trees, chipping branches, burning what doesn’t chip, and mowing.
Our house has a metal roof, cement siding, gutter guards, composite decks and a 2000-gallon water tank.
After seeing Phoenix and Talent burn, I know all our efforts won’t mean a thing.
We’re surrounded by checkerboarded BLM land that does nothing to reduce fire hazard on their lands.
Now homeowner’s insurance is at a greater risk than ever.
What are we supposed to do?
BJ Lewis Eagle Point Commissioners hypocritical I am extremely disturbed by the commissioners’ proposal to refer Buckhorn Springs’ ability to fulfill their mission to the general public. 1) Oregon voters have approved the controlled use of psilocybin for mental health issues that have been refractory to treatment.
This includes PTSD for so many of our military, our general public faced with trauma and subsequent depression and anxiety.
Treatment options for return to a more normal life with tolerance for the trauma are extremely limited.
The general public is not knowledgeable about these specific medical issues and would be making ill-informed and emotional decisions.
This is the equivalent of asking them to make a decision about a new surgical treatment and restricting the skills of the physician to help. 2) With all the support given to individual freedom by the county commissioners, this seems like a hypocritical, knee-jerk reaction without sufficient inquiry or knowledge requested to make such a decision and deferring to the public is way below the leadership expected of this body.
