Nov. 23, 1922 ATTEMPT MADE TO ROB DRUG STORE Three attempts were made last evening to enter Strang’s Drug store from the rear, a “jimmie” being used to raise two windows while it was also used in attempting to enter the rear door.
It is believed that the thieves did not make their entrance as nothing had been disturbed.
The first attempt was made at 6:30 last evening, and Virgil Strang who was in the sore at the time paid no attention to the noise, thinking it was a rat invading the rear of the store.
When he returned to the store about 9:30 one of the windows was up about eight inches.
The police were called and Officer Adams, accompanied by A.
Stewart, a Southern Pacific detective, made an examination.
This morning when the store was opened up the other window was up about an inch and marks of a “jimmie” were seen on the edge of the back door.
Several drug stores have been robbed lately in cities north of here, quantities of narcotics having been taken.
It is believed that last night’s prowlers were in search of morphine or some similar substance.
Mr.
Strang states that he handles a small stock of narcotics.
MEDFORD’S PIGSKIN TOSSERS ARE BUSY Under the direction of Coach Durno, the local high school football squads are undergoing stiff workouts each evening and are adhering strictly to the training regulations in preparation for the Ashland game, Thanksgiving Day at 2 p.m. at Ashland between Ashland and Medford high schools.
With the exception of Donovan, Medford’s left end who has been indisposed since several days before the Armistice Day game, the men are in excellent condition for the coming contest, which is regarded as a hard battle.
It is understood that Principal Forsythe of the Ashland high school has written Andy Smith, coach of the Golden Bears, for information leading to some unbiased, disinterested officials, California or Stanford men, who will be agreeable to both Medford and Ashland.
LOCAL AND PERSONAL The contracting firm, which has the contract for building the new reservoir for the city has been busy assembling machinery at the site, the crew of laborers has all been engaged and construction work will be begun within a few days.
It is expected that it will be between three and four months before the large new reservoir of two million gallons capacity will be completed.
