The issue of seat belts in rear seats came up after the death of Cyrus Mistry, former chairman of Tata Sons, in a road accident in Maharashtra’s Palghar on September 4.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Traffic Police fined a total of 23,547 auto-rickshaws and taxis in October for refusing to ferry passengers wanting to travel short distances.
The figure in October is more than the total figure from January to June this year.
Of the 23,547 cases, 15,395 auto-rickshaws were fined Rs 50 each and 8,152 taxis were fined Rs 200 each.
Amid a row over the Tata-Airbus project going to Gujarat, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said company officials had last year rued the “unfavourable” investment climate in the state .
He claimed the decision to shift the project was taken when Uddhav Thackeray was the chief minister. “I had invited the chiefs of the Tata Airbus Defence projects on April 24, 2021, at my residence ‘Sagar’, despite being a leader of opposition in the state.
I spoke to them and told them as a senior leader, I will speak with the then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray to keep the project in Maharashtra.
However, they told me ‘ yahan ka mahol investment jaise nahi hai, Devendraji’ (the atmosphere in the state is not worth an investment),” he told reporters.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Monday launched the second of the longest (180 metre) orthotropic steel decks (OSD) on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) , a 22-km-long sea link that will connect South Mumbai to Navi Mumbai.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday submitted death certificates of two men, who were named witnesses in the Malegaon 2008 blast case, before a special court.
One of duo was a key witness in the case, who had given a statement to the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) about his association with accused Prasad Purohit.
Special public prosecutor Avinash Rasal told the court that the witnesses were summoned to appear before the court, and on querying, their families informed the agency that they had died.

A 15-year-old girl who left for Delhi reportedly to meet her boyfriend after getting acquainted with him on a photo and video sharing social networking service was traced in Haridwar, a Mumbai police official said.
The girl had gone missing on Friday, after which her kin filed a kidnapping case, the Bhoiwada police station official said. "Our probe found she was in touch with a minor boy from Delhi.
The boy's kin had filed a kidnapping case in Delhi as he too was missing.
