The University of Guam announced its Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022, which featured the first team award for Triton Athletics.
The legendary 1977 undefeated Tritons football team was highlighted with several members inducted into the individual UOG Athletic Hall of Fame in the past five classes, according to a release from Triton Athletics.
Former UOG President Robert Underwood, who led the way for the Hall of Fame through hiring a new athletics director and relaunching the Tritons men’s basketball team in 2016, was inducted.
Also inducted was UOG graduate Jerry Tan from the class of 1983.
Tan has played a huge role in pushing for Triton Athletics and the Field House Department by recruiting more student-athletes in the Northern Mariana Islands, according to the release.
Tan also was heavily involved in hosting the recent Pacific Mini-Games.
Other honors were Larry Gamboa for contributing to men’s volleyball; former volleyball and basketball player Michelle Cruz Taispic; and high-flying volleyball and basketball player Jesse Perez, according to the release.
The Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022 will be honored Nov. 12 at the UOG Calvo Field House.
That will be followed by the Athletic Hall of Fame Basketball Game, according to the release.
